How do societal boundaries change with time, age, situations, and perspectives for every woman? Every woman, at some point in her life, feels the walls closing in. For some, it happens in childhood. For others, after marriage, motherhood, or even in old age. The freedom she once had slowly disappears as society’s expectations tighten around her, leaving her trapped in a space that keeps getting smaller. This film tells the story of women confined in invisible boundaries, each struggling to breathe, move, or break free

Concept & Story Breakdown

Chaukhat explores the invisible boundaries society places on women through different stages of life, showing how freedom slowly changes into restriction with age, expectations, and social norms.

The film follows a woman’s journey from birth to old age, capturing moments of discrimination, control, silence, and societal pressure across every phase of her life, ultimately questioning and challenging these inherited boundaries.

From a hidden barfi at a baby shower to chalk boxes, office cubicles, kitchen spaces, floor mats, and beds, every stage visually represents restriction, control, and confinement. Props like the colouring book, pressure cooker, ticking watch, and “Stop Thinking Start Doing” mousepad subtly reflect pressure, limitation, time, and resistance against societal expectations.

Each set in Chaukhat was designed to reflect the emotional state and societal boundaries of the character in that stage of life. From traditional household spaces and confined kitchen setups to office cubicles and isolated corners, every environment was carefully styled to support the narrative and symbolism of the scene.
